It's Only Tuesday...

Today is only Tuesday, and it’s already been an interesting week.

One child told me she sure would be glad when school was out so she wouldn’t have to put up with teachers anymore!  Seriously!

Another child lied to me and then lied again to cover up the first lie.  Seriously!

My principal confronted me today when he thought I had taken my class off the school grounds without permission.  Seriously!

A young lady decided to get the sand out of her boots by dumping the sand onto the carpet.  Apparently it was too much trouble to walk a few extra steps and dump it into the trash container.  Seriously!

I gave my kiddos a poster (OKLAHOMA STATE FOOTBALL ~ 2012 TOSTITOS FIESTA BOWL CHAMPIONS) that I had rolled up and put a rubber band around.  One young man decided to yell through the tube right into another child’s ear.  Seriously!

A flip flop was handed to me after recess (which I refused to take) and I was asked to fix it up for her.  Seriously!

Yes, it’s only Tuesday.  It’s going to be an interesting week.

I Love My Baby Sister!

I love my baby sister!  As a child, I begged her to play dolls with me. She absolutely hated it, but she played anyways.
I loved playing dolls with my baby sister

We shared a bedroom for many years.
I never liked being alone, so knowing she was there was always comforting.
I loved sharing a room with my baby sister.

We were so competitive playing tetherball!  Numerous hours were spent playing each other & we never broke the rules!
I loved playing tetherball with my baby sister.

She tried to teach me how to play the flute.  I never could come close to her awesomeness!
I loved taking lessons from my baby sister.

I helped her get her very first job working at a fast food place.   We worked together for many years & we somehow managed to get fired together.
I loved working with my baby sister.

Our lives have encountered a multitude of memories together.   There is no one that can take her place.

I love making memories with my baby sister.

As I think about my baby sister, I realize how blessed I am. God placed her in my life and & I cherish each memory that we have shared.
I definitely love my baby sister!

It's Just Not A Good Day

Do you ever just have one of those days?  Where you experience feelings that you just don’t know how to explain to anyone?  I’ve tried to explain it to my hubby, but he just doesn’t get it ~ I don’t either really.  If my feelings were put into a recipe today, it would look something like this:

·       a tad of anxiety
·       a whole lot of worry
·       an inkling of anticipation
·       a little bit of fear
·       a few irritations
·       a chunk of loneliness
·       a piece of discouragement
·       a morsel of restlessness
·       some sadness

Mix all of those feelings & emotions together and you get what I’m experiencing right now.  I don’t think it’s a recipe that you want to file away and keep for yourself.  J

I Do Not Like Tag, I Do Not Like It One Little Bit!

Oh my goodness, NOT tag! I cry when someone I tag doesn’t play fair. So if I tag you, you better play fair. Trust me, you don’t want to see me cry, it’s hard to stop.

Rachel over at A-B-Seymour tagged me. Thanks Rachel, I was wondering what I was going to do this morning at 2:00 when I couldn’t sleep.

As with all games, there are rules that you need to follow. Please read them carefully!:

     * Post these rules

     * Answer the 10 questions that the tagger posted for you

     * Create 10 questions of your own to ask the people that you're about to tag

     * Tag 10 people and link them with your post (and let them know they've been tagged!)

Okay, with that all out of the way, I’ll now answer the questions from Rachel.

1. What is your favorite subject to teach?

Reading is my favorite!  In first grade there is tremendous growth ~ and I love watching it happen

2.  What is your most embarrassing moment as a teacher?

Hmmm. There have been so many. But closing my classroom door on my skirt and walking  until it ripped beyond repair has to be at the top of my list.

3.  What is the most exciting thing you will do this summer?

I’m going to the All Write Consortium in Warsaw, Indiana with my bestest teaching buddy in June. We will get to see Katie Wood Ray, Debbie Diller, and Ruth Ayers. There are more, but those are the only ones I can think of right off the top of my head right now.

4.  What is your favorite holiday?

I love the 4th of July! It’s usually a time spent with family, friends, good food, homemade bombs, fireworks, and just fun!

5.  What is the most important item you use in your classroom?

I can’t just pick one ~ I love them all. My computer, TV, Smartboard, Elmo, MP3 players, Neo3, they are all important to me!

6.  What item would you love to have in your classroom?

a document camera I think (my elmo is just about to bite the dust)

7.  What tip would you give to a new teacher?

Parent relationships are important! Keep in touch with them through emails, phone calls, notes, etc.

8.  How long have you been a teacher?

15 years

9.  If you weren't a teacher, what would you be doing?

A doctor

10. How do you celebrate the end of the school year with your kiddos?

For the last couple of years we have taken our firsties on a field trip to “our” beautiful lake.  My bestest buddy claims it as her lake too. The kiddos go fishing, catch bugs and if they are lucky they even catch a few frogs. We also make our awesome husbands roast wieners and marshmallows for everyone.

Well now, wasn't that fun!

Now here are 10 questions for those I tagged:

1.   Where is your favorite place to go for relaxation?
2.   What is your favorite picture book?
3.    Do other teachers at your school have a blog?
4.    Do you have any bad habits?
5.    When is your school out for summer break?
6.    How many pairs of flips flops do you have in your closet?
7.    How long have you been blogging?  & What made you start blogging?
8.    What are your favorite TV shows?
9.    How prepared are you for the Common Core?
10.  What state do you teach in?

I tagged several relatively new blogs, so make sure you go and check out their blogs!

My Crazy Lady Will Be Missed

Out of the corner of my eye I saw movement at my crazy lady’s house.  When I realized it was her husband, my first instinct was to turn and go into the house, but I knew there was a need there that we could help meet.

My husband and I walked the short distance to their home.  When he saw us, we were immediately greeted with a warm smile but his eyes revealed an unbearable sadness.  His voice broke as he
told us that she was not responding verbally anymore.  He started walking toward the house and insisted that we go in to see her.

I was quickly feeling a sense of dread...

I knew things were going to be heartbreaking and I was not comfortable going inside, but I continued to follow him. He tenderly shook her shoulder, telling her that she had  company.

Her eyes opened and she looked around... but her eyes were not focused on anything. As I looked down at her, I knew there was nothing I could say. I reach for her hand and leaned down to kiss her forehead.  It was then that I saw a tear slowly emerged from her eyes. I tried hard to control the tears, but the dam had completely broke!

As we walked back home, a neighbor hollered at us about how much in love we looked as we walked holding hands. I looked up at her and smiled, but I was deep in thought about how the love of this man’s life would soon depart from this earth.

She died early the next morning.

I’m going to deeply miss my crazy lady.
