What's Your Favorite Nut

It's that time of the week again when Ms. Jessica over at A Turn to Learn hosts her weekly linky party of things our students say.  Please come and share!

We were making a graph about our favorite type of nut.  As I was listing their favorites, one student told me his favorite was a banana nut.  I'm thinking to myself that he probably was confused about what I was asking him.  After a bit of discussion, he almost had me convinced that there was such a thing as a banana nut.  I finally realized (with the guidance of some of my other students) that his favorite nut was a cashew!  Of course, a cashew... don't we all think of a banana when we see a cashew!!!

Today I was handing out a paper to my students and I said "here is your hundreds fart."  I realized immediately what I said...and was hoping they weren't  listening (which had been the case all day!) ...but nope...I think everyone of them heard it... They laughed like it was the funniest thing ever... which of course made me laugh.  One of my students then said "I love it when you laugh!"  Hmmm...maybe I need to laugh with them more??

Okay, it's your turn.... Come and link up and share by clicking the picture below.

Funnies from Firsties

Don't you just love it when your student's make you laugh?  Here are just a few precious moments...

I asked my students if they knew why we didn't come to school on Monday (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)... One of my sweeties raised her hand without any hesitation and said that was easy.  It was all because of the Father/Daughter Dance (which was Saturday)... they would be way to tired to come to school on Monday.

After reading a book about teeth, I asked my students if they had ever had a cavity.  One little girl raised her hand and told me she had one and it smelled just like a BBQ.  hmmm....

A few weeks ago I was checking to see what books one of my students had at her desk.  When she came back, she immediately noticed that they were gone. I told her that I needed to look at them for a few minutes.  She said "Soon, you are going to be a smartie like me and  know everything I know."

This came from a student I retained last year.  "I love your class and I want to always stay in here.  Pretty soon, Ill be driving myself here."

Two of my little girls had a disagreement and it was creating problems on the playground.  I asked them later if everything was okay between them.  One of them said "Yes, we made out."  Her face got red and immediately said ... "I mean we made up!!!"

I didn't realize that A Turn to Learn hosts a weekly linky party for cute things our kiddos say.  Click on the button below find out all about it and to share one of your funnies!

January Currently

Better late than never...but my One Little Word (OLW)  just wasn't coming to me!  If you haven't  posted your January Currently, head on over to Farley's!

My new little puppy (Samson)  is about to wear me out.  He must have the littlest bladder in the world!!!  Tinkle, tinkle, tinkle!!  We have never kenneled our dogs, but this little one just has way too many accidents.  However, in his kennel he never has those accidents.

For Christmas my bestest teaching buddy went shopping and got my husband a couple of little big throw blankets (I hate shopping... so she does it for me... well, not really...she was shopping...so I gave her my list!).  I let my hubby pick his favorite and I kept the other one.  Love It!

This afternoon I have to go to the dentist.  Have I told you have much I dislike dentist (not personally.... just generally!) and I can't think of very many things that scare me more than sitting in that chair! Keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to go back...which is always bad news!

On Saturday we had ourselves a bit of snow in Oklahoma!  Loved it... The only thing missing was a big pot of chili cooking.  I don't think I have a single ingredient in my kitchen that goes in it except for Salt!  I wonder if I could call my bestest teaching buddy and give her my grocery list?  lol

Our precious little puppy is growing so big...and way too FAST.  In fact when we took him too the Vet and she gave us some vitamins that are especially for puppies that are growing too fast.  You should see his paws!  Wow!!!

I finally picked GROWTH as my One Little Word.  This year I would like to see growth in so many different areas of my life.  Here are just a few:

Pencil Sharpener Review

I wish I could say that I just received this green pencil sharpener in the mail a few days ago...but it would be a lie... I received it in August (I think)!  I’m such a procrastinator.  I’ve been meaning to write about it...but I was kind of torn about what to write.  Everyone has raved and raved about it...but I have mixed feelings.  If you don’t know anything about the pencil sharpener that  I’m talking about you can check it out at Classroom Friendly Supplies.

Here is what I absolutely love about the pencil sharpener:
  • The pencils always come out SHARP – I mean really really really sharp... (I think they could even be considered a weapon!)
  • The pencil sharpener is VERY quiet! You don’t have to hold the pencil while you are sharpening it. The pencil is pulled in as you turn the handle.
  • It will sharpen even the cheap pencils as well as those special pencils that mean so much to my little ones!
  • It has never locked up or eaten up any pencil.
  • It can be moved anywhere easily.
  • They come in a variety of great colors: groovy green, cool blue, firehouse red, and midnight black.

Here are the things that I have issues with:
  • It is such a pain to pull out the clasps for every single pencil!!  Maybe I’m just lazy, but I do not like it one little bit. I can use my electric pencil sharpener much quicker.  (Which needs replaced at least once a year).
  • I have not been successful using the clamp to hold the pencil sharpener down.  It always moves when my students sharpen their pencils.

So there you go... my thoughts on this beautiful pencil sharpener.  If you would like to watch a video about how the pencil sharpener works, please click on the pencil sharpener below to view.

Go check is out for yourself.   It was designed by Troy Decoff who is the owner and founder of The Quietest Classroom Pencil Sharpener.

Fun Five & Our New Baby Boy

Before the holidays, I started something new with my class. I must admit that I needed a few minutes to get some daily morning items completed... so this has worked perfectly! After a brief explanation of the activity and playing a couple of rounds of the game, students find their partner (they have the same partner every day) and  off they go.  They know that they don't have time to mess around, because I immediately start my timer for 5 minutes.  Most of the time they BEG me to let them play longer...and sometimes I fold  (when I'm not quite finished with my stuff).  We are working on equality and this is one of the games that they played last week.  Here is the sheet that they used on Friday.

Samson is the newest addition to our family.  I had forgotten what it was like to have a puppy in the house.  Oh My Goodness!!!  He is growing so fast.  He hasn't quite figured out the whole potty thing yet.

I couldn't resist adding this picture.  It took a few days for Shadow to warm up to little Samson... but now she has become quite the little mother.
